From an Empty Venue to a Complete Experience

When I reach a venue in the morning, most of the time it looks nothing like the event we have planned.

The hall is empty. Chairs are still stacked somewhere. The stage hasn't been set. Boxes are lying around and the decoration team is just getting started.

And then the rush begins.

One person needs something from the other side of the venue. Someone is asking about the lights. Someone is waiting for the flowers. The stage team is calling. And I'm moving from one place to another checking things.

This is a normal event day for me.

I don't mind this part, though.

Actually, I enjoy it.

I like seeing how an empty place slowly changes.

First, the stage is ready. Then the lights are checked. Tables and chairs are put in place. The flowers go up. The entrance starts looking different.

Sometimes we change things at the last minute too.

A chair needs to move. The lighting doesn't look right from one side. Something on the stage needs to be shifted.

So we fix it.

There is always something.

At Baba Saab Events, I have learned that an event is not about putting everything in the right place and calling it done.

I keep thinking about the guests.

Will they be able to find the entrance easily?

Can they sit comfortably?

Can everyone see the stage?

Does the place feel good when you walk in?

These are small things, but they matter.

And then, after all the running around, there is a small quiet moment.

Everything is ready.

The team is standing around, the venue is clean, the lights are on, and guests are about to arrive.

I look at the venue and remember how empty it was a few hours ago.

Now it is ready for someone's wedding, celebration or important day.

That change is probably my favourite part of the job.

Starting with an empty venue and seeing it ready for people is something I never get tired of.

That's event work for me.

A lot of running around, a lot of small things to look after, and finally that one moment when you look around and feel — yes, we did it.
